Sharp extends ‘finger-swipe’ range with two new high performance MFPs: Unique touch control technology now available to ‘power users’ with high volume document production requirements

Europe, 2011-06-14

Sharp has extended its range of finger-swipe touch control MFPs with the addition of two new machines aimed at busy workgroups that routinely tackle high volume document production against tight deadlines. The move is calculated to help the manufacturer increase its share of a market segment which has doubled in recent years*.

People with smart phones or tablet PCs will already be familiar with the concept of finger-swipe touch control technology. By touching the large control panel, they can control documents, functions and settings simply by sliding, flicking or tapping a finger on the screen.

“We introduced finger-swipe control to our mid-range MFPs to boost productivity in a typical office setting, by making the controls truly intuitive,” said Yosuke Kashu, Market and Product Information Manager, Sharp Digital Document Systems Europe. “It’s even more useful for high-end machines, though, in environments where people are frequently tasked with urgent, more complicated jobs.”

Fast, powerful and productive

The 51 pages per minute (ppm) MX-5112N and the 41 ppm MX-4112N are designed to meet the needs of a variety of high volume document production environments. Fast print speeds are complemented by rapid two-sided scanning of up to 75 originals per minute, depending upon the configuration, and a paper capacity that can be expanded to 5,600 sheets for longer uninterrupted print runs.

A3 full bleed capability, high speed document feeders, and a good selection of finishing options -including high capacity finishers, saddle-stitching, sorting, stapling and hole punching – give both machines the ability to create a wide range of documents in-house.

Copying and printing can be performed at the maximum rated speeds in full colour as well as in black & white.

Ease of Use

Sharp has further enhanced the productivity of its new finger-swipe MFPs by placing a firm emphasis on ease of use.

The touch-screen control panel, for example, is a large 10.1“, for less on-screen clutter and intuitive, at-a-glance control. It can also be tilted up or down for easy viewing, even from a wheelchair. A context-sensitive ‘action panel’ on the screen updates itself to present a choice of features which the user is most likely to need next to complete the current job.

Other ease-of-use innovations include ‘easy grip’ handles on the paper drawers, a digital user guide  (accessible from the control panel) and  the ability for individual users to customise the ‘home screen’ of the control panel to gain one-touch access to their favourite features. The control panel can also give users direct, walk up access to the internet for searching and printing out content.

There are also a number of  tools for trouble-free administration and support, including Sharp’s Remote Device Manager and Remote Access Control Panel, which allow for web-based control and technical support as well as  giving support staff the ability to remotely view and operate the front panel display without leaving their desks.

Reduced environmental impact

Both MFPs continue Sharp’s trend of reducing the consumption of energy and other resources wherever possible, with a Total Energy Consumption (TEC) value of around one third of previous models with a comparable performance.

In addition, these Energy Star-certified MFPs can ’learn’ the workgroup’s typical usage patterns and automatically shut down during anticipated quiet times as well as at prescheduled intervals. The warm-up time is 34 seconds or less and the scanner uses LED lights for lower energy consumption.
